All of the sessions and workshops will be held in our Art Studio in Thame.  Where stated numbers are limited so please book ahead.

Still Life Drawing Club

Every Monday evening 7:15pm – 9:00pm

£12 per person, includes materials. No need to book, just turn up on the night. 

Do you love drawing?

Would you like to meet others who have a similar interest?

We’re running an evening still life drawing session every Monday.

You will be provided with paper, pencils and charcoals for your use as part of the session as well as having the cafe open for exclusive use.

This session is a peer group where any tuition or support is provided by the group, although there is a facilitator on hand to offer support and guidance.

This is suitable for complete beginners right through to more experienced artists who want to draw and chat in a warm friendly environment.

Art Homework Club

Every Tuesday afternoon 3:00 – 5:00pm – free

Use our space to do your art homework.*

We also have a wide range of art materials for you to use.
 
They’ll also be someone on hand to advise on best use of materials and support in your activity.
 
* Parents are required to stay and supervise their children if under the age of 12.

Drop-in Arts & Crafts Children’s Session

Every Wednesday 9:30 – 11:30 – £5 per child

Drop in tutor led art & craft sessions for children every Wednesday morning
Each week there will be a different activity for children to undertake with a take home piece of work. Price per child £5 – payable on the day direct to the tutor.

(parents must stay and supervise their children)

Modern Calligraphy Workshop with Jessica Smith Illustration

Thursday 21st June – 7:00pm – 9:00pm

Come along to learn basic modern calligraphy, including letter forms and decoration.

Including a personalised sketchbook to take home with you.

Learn to paint in oils with Mark Fennell RBSA

 
4 week evening course
Starts Tuesday 3rd July – 24th July 2018
£140 per person

Beginners to intermediate level, no oil painting experience is needed for this course
About The Course:
A great painting course for beginners or intermediate levels, if you’re looking to try oil painting for the first time or loosen up your oil painting skills.

Mark will begin the course with a short demonstration and then you will start off by painting a simple still life.
Over the course you’ll have lots of one one tuition and be able to paint any subject of your choice.

No experience is needed for this course and is suitable for the complete beginner to oil painting.

Mark will demonstrate and guide you through his simple structured approach to painting in oils, breaking everything down into easy to follow steps that will cover everything from mixing all the colours you need from a basic primary colour palette to working tonally, blocking in the larger elements and leaving the finer details for the final stages of the painting.

What to bring: 
A pre primed and grounded canvas or board ( the ground must be dry on the day)
A selection of long handle short flat hog paint brushes in a range of sizes from 2 – 12, also small round hog
brushes size 1 and 2.
Palette knives Winsor and newton sizes 20 and 22 or similar.
Zest-it low odour oil paint thinners and linseed oil or Liquin original, a dipper/pot to hold the solvent.
Good size flat mixing palette.
Oil colours as follows – titanium white, naples yellow, cadmium yellow pale, yellow ochre,
cadmium red, alizarine crimson, burnt sienna or Burnt umber, french ultramarine.
A good size jar for Zest-It to clean brushes, cloths or tissues.
Sticks of charcoal.
Or alternatively materials can be supplied if requested.

Landscape painting techniques in oils with Mark Fennell RBSA

This is a beginners course in en plein air oil painting, learn the basics from scratch.

5 week evening course
Starts Tuesday 7th August – 4th September 2018
7:00pm – 9:30pm
Price £165 per person
This is a beginners course, no experience necessary
About the course:
Mark will demonstrate and guide you through his simple structured approach to plein air painting in oils, how to capture the moment whether at home in the UK or away on holiday.
Learn all the basics, the equipment you need to travel light, set up quickly out doors and work on the spot.
He will break everything down into easy to follow steps that will cover everything from mixing all the colours you need from a basic primary colour palette to working tonally, blocking in the larger elements and leaving the finer details for the final stages of the painting.
On week five we will be painting on location in Brill village.
No experience is needed for this course and is suitable for the complete beginner to oil painting.
What to bring: 
Good photographic reference of a subject of your choice or suitable landscape images will be provided.
A pre primed and grounded canvas or board ( the ground must be dry on the day)
A selection of long handle short flat hog paint brushes in a range of sizes from 2 – 12, also small round hog
brushes size 1 and 2.
Palette knives Winsor and newton sizes 20 and 22 or similar.
Liquin original and a dipper/pot to hold the medium.
Good size flat mixing palette.
Quick drying Winsor and Newton Griffin Oil colours as follows – titanium white, naples yellow, cadmium yellow pale, yellow ochre, cadmium red, alizarine crimson, burnt sienna, raw umber, french ultramarine.
A good size jar for Zest-It to clean brushes, cloths or tissues.
Sticks of charcoal.
Please ensure you bring a carrier for taking home your wet painting.
Alternatively materials can be supplied if requested.

Learn to paint bold expressive portraits in oils with palette knives with Mark Fennell RBSA

1 day course: 10am – 4pm
Sunday 7th October 2018

Some oil painting experience is needed for this course
Price £80 per person
About the course:

The course will will begin with a short introduction when Mark will talk about his approach and techniques to knife painting and give a 45 minute demonstration.

Mark will guide you through his well structured approach to painting a portrait, breaking it down into easy to follow steps that will look at all aspects of painting a well composed portrait, from setting up your palette, to colour-mixing and how tone and colour can be used to describe structure, shape and form.
What to bring:

Good photographic reference of a subject of your choice or suitable portrait images will be provided.

A pre primed and grounded canvas.
Good quality short flat hog brushes sizes 2 and 4
(no water colour/sable brushes)

Palette knifes – minimum requirement Winsor and newton sizes 20, 30 and 21 or similar. (quality knives please, no plastic knives)
Zest-it painting medium and pot/dipper to hold solvent and a good size jar to clean brushes in Zest-it. (Zest-it is preferable to turps and white spirit as it is odour free.)

Good size flat mixing palette (no plates or paper palettes please)
Oil colours as follows – titanium white, naples yellow, cadmium yellow pale, yellow ochre, cadmium red, alizarine crimson, burnt sienna, ivory black, french ultramarine

Alternatively materials can be supplied if requested.
 Please ensure you bring a suitable carrier for taking home your wet painting.
